Don’t have a camera? Youtube makes it easier for you to make and post videos

Making a video and putting it onto Youtube doesn’t require a lot of effort these days. A lot of video editing software now has the functionality to directly export your work directly to the video sharing site. However, if you don’t have access to a video camera, it can be rather hard to make something Youtube-worthy. That’s why the company has teamed up with Xtranormal, Stupeflix and GoAnimate to make video creation a little easier. While you could have used…

Pogoplug Beta lets you easily share files with almost any device connected to the web

If you have a couple of desktops, a laptop, a smartphone and perhaps a tablet, it can be rather difficult to keep track of all of your files between them. There’s nothing like whipping out your laptop, only to realize that the important file you were looking for resides on your desktop. I do my best to prevent this issue by keeping the majority of my files on a file server, which I can ftp into from anywhere. Such a…

Sprint Drive First locks down your phone when driving

Yesterday we posted about a Bluetooth receiver that would allow you to do such things as compose emails and update Facebook without using your hands. Some people think that even this is far too much of a distraction. It’s true that anything that takes your focus off of the road, even a little, can reduce your awareness and increase your chances to get in an accident. Well Sprint recognizes this, and has decided to offer a service to remove your…

Quickshot camera app saves photos from your iPhone directly to Dropbox

This month a new iOS application has been released called Quickshot, which will allow you to take photographs and save them directly to your Dropbox. Thanks to my phone dying or malfunctioning at just the right time, Ive lost a couple of hilarious photos that shouldve gone on Twitter or Facebook, Quickshot will let you use your flash, but doesnt have HDR, which is a tad disappointing. You can however upload images taken from the standard Apple camera in the…

Media Converter is a free and simple way to convert media files

Converting media files can be a pain in the rear sometimes. First you have to figure out what specific format it needs to be in, then hunt down the appropriate software, which will sometimes require a purchase. If you’re looking for a handy little program that can quickly convert audio and video files to a few of the more common formats, you might be interested in Media Converter. This is by far the most simple converter I’ve ever used. Just…

Shush! app lets you specify just how long your Android phone stays silent

When I go to bed at night, I want to sleep undisturbed by my phone. I have enough trouble slumbering through the night without some random text or phone call waking me up. And with my unusual schedule, it’s not all that uncommon for such a call to occur. Usually I’ll just turn the sound off completely and forget about it. The downside to this is that I tend to forget to actually turn the ringer back on. Sometimes it…

Caribou – An Andriod app that unlocks card key locks

Just when you think your private residential pool is safe because of the fancy card key they gave you at the desk, the Caribou app comes along to crash your pool parties. Thats right, the Android has gone super spy with an app that can hack basic card key systems. All you need is the IP address and you have 30 seconds to get in. Any doors that you open will re-close after the time limit is up, but half…

Apple now requires a password for all in-app purchases

Remember back in December when we warned you of the possible danger of letting your kids play certain apps on your iPhone? The danger was that if you’d entered your iTunes password within the last 15 minutes, your child could make in-app purchases on your dime. The Smurf’s Village app was notorious for being used by children to make such purchases. Well now with the latest version of iOS (which came out yesterday), you don’t have to worry about that…

Google Smart Labels help sort your inbox

None of us like being stereotyped into a specific category. Though I doubt wed mind if our email is stereotyped and categorized; provided Google sorts it for us. Google has announced a new feature for Gmail users called Smart Labels that will organize your email so you dont have to. I dont know about everyone else, but my email inbox Is a mess of notifications, forum chatter, newsletters, etc. The occasional real mail will pop up here and there, but…

Ding It’s Up automatically notifies you when a site comes back online

How many times have you tried to browse to one of your favorite sites, only to find it is currently down? It can be especially frustrating if the site is vital for some part of your daily life, such as your online banking. With no way of knowing when it will be back up, the only thing you can do is check on it periodically. That, or you could have a service automatically contact you when it is back online….

VOIP calls come to Google Voice (sort of)

I love my Google Voice account. Being able to hand out one number and know that it will ring any phone I need can be rather useful. Not to mention the ability to block numbers with the greatest of ease. One thing I’ve been hoping to see is the ability to use the number in a VOIP setting, a la Skype. Well it seems that I may get that very thing. It would seem that Google is working on implementing…

Google Maps Navigation now guides you around heavy-traffic areas

There’s nothing worse than leaving the house early, only to get stuck in traffic, causing you to be late in arriving at your destination. If you’re lucky, you might flip on the news at the very moment they are announcing a wreck on the very road you were planning to take. However, most of the time you don’t know about the backed up cars until you’re in their midst. If you use Google Maps Navigation on your Android phone, you’re…

How Secure Is My Password?

When it comes to online security, having a strong password cannot be stressed enough. A simple name or birthday might have been acceptable back in the 90’s (my first Hotmail account allowed a 4-digit password) but these days anything less than 8, with a mix of letters, numbers and non-alphanumeric characters is just asking for trouble. Curious how long your password would stack up against a hacker using a brute force attack? There’s a site for that. Obviously this site…
