Stepmania.

Stepmania. Funky free Open Source version of the smash hit console and arcade dance pad game Dance Dance Revolution. We also love love the massive amount of home grown user-crafted add-ons and dance mats floating around. Fab stuff.  StepMania is a rhythm game for Windows, Mac, and Linux. It features 3D graphics, keyboard and “dance pad” support, and an editor for creating your own steps. Arrows scroll up from the bottom of the screen and you must hit a button in time…

IP finder.

IP 2 Location. Find out the geographic location of an IP address or a number of them. Yes it’s simple, but it works. And you can embed the service on your web site and even buy the database. Not bad, eh?  Web Query to Reverse Lookup Country, State, City, Latitude, Longitude and ISP by IP address.

ePost P2P email system.

ePost. A P2P email system without servers. Compatible with conventional email clients like Outlook Express, encrypted for extra security and rather free. Super interesting stuff!  ePOST works by storing data on all participant desktops. This means that you desktop is storing some of your mail, but mail for a number of other users, too. All of the data in encrypted, however, which prevents other users from reading your mail, and vice-versa. In order to survive a failure by a participating…

Qnext – next generation P2P?

Qnext. A Peer to Peer application suite offering an interesting round up of products under the P2P banner. Universal chat client, photo sharing, remote music streaming, audio chat and video conferencing, file transfer, online gaming, IRC, remote access tool. There, that’s enough to be going on with for now, run along and play.

SightSpeed.

SightSpeed. PC and Mac video phone. Free offers cool features, Pro version offers storage, and other conferencing goodies for $4.95 a month. Not sure about subscription models for this type of stuff unless it offers a remarkable level of added value over freebies. But it’s got a heavyweight management team, so what do I know?  SightSpeed is the only service to deliver voice and video at 30 frames per second over broadband and Wi-Fi without delay — providing clear, precise, natural…

Google Send to Phone.

The Google Send to Phone Firefox Extension is jolly clever, peeps. It allows you to copy, paste and send snippets of web information direct from the browser to your mobile phone via SMS. So you could send yourself a phone number, address or driving instructions (presumably less than 160 characters). US only at the moment, but will go international if popular enough, and it’s free to send. Yep, it’s yet another cool app.  Google Send to Phone for Firefox is an…

Skype 2.0 with Video.

Skype 2.0 with Video has launched at last. 60 million users now have the opportunity to clog the Skype P2P system with video chat, which should be interesting. I’ve been playing with the beta (click thumbnail) and it’s just about OK, although from first viewing it’s clear that the video is inferior to that of the latest MSM Messenger. What’s more, the frame rate is very slow, it’s not as clear and full screen mode doesn’t seem to be as forgiving. In fact, on…

Lost in translation.

The folks at Translution figure they can provide pretty slick machine translation with their software program. Haven’t had a chance to try it out yet, but the free version offers email message translation and the Pro adds in website and Word document translation smarts. Worth a look, d’ya think?  For the first time you can write your email in your own language in the normal way, press the “Send” button, and your correspondents will receive the email automatically translated into…

Silent Bob.

SilentBob. Record stuff via your soundcard. Got a feeling this might be quite useful in certain circumstances.  Silent Bob is a pure recording application. It runs in the background and records all incoming music from the soundcard. When the user decides to record and pushes the button, no problem Silent-Bob has already started the recording 2 minutes earlier.

MS USB Flash Manager.

The Microsoft USB Flash Drive Manager. A small free utility to help you manage, backup and restore data from your flash drive devices. Windows XP only. Nice of them, don’t you think?  The Microsoft USB Flash Drive Manager will help you backup and restore presentation, pictures, songs and applications from and to USB Flash Drive devices and take them with you. The application can also help you to classify and name USB Flash Drives images (for instance “My network configuration”…

Tiny Clip.

TinyClip. A rather neat converter of long URLs to the TinyURL format. Just copy the long link to the clipboard and this taskbar utility automatically converts it via the TinyURL site. Clever and useful.  When it detects a URL in the clipboard, it will automatically convert it to a TinyURL and put the contents back in the clipboard. No special key is required, just the usual Ctrl-C, Ctrl-V.
