Call The Future – prank or reminders?

Call The Future. Set the free service up to call you or anyone else at some time and date in the future. Why? Perhaps as a reminder, or to prank someone, or to have an excuse to leave that boring party. Sounds kind of useful, in a worrying kind of way.  This tool dials a phone number and a computer voice reads off the text. The receiving phone number shows up as the CallerID field. You can set the time to any point in the future,…

WebFTP

WebFTP. Well lookee here, WebFTP is back. One of the most useful little web tools around disappeared a few years back, but now has returned with a new face and hopefully a new business model. Unfortunately there’s a filesize limit, which is a shame, but it should still be useful in an emergency.  With web2ftp.com, you can access any FTP account through a Web interface – no matter whether there is a firewall or not. You can use webftp for…

Scribble – fabulous free game

Scribble. If you *really* really want to waste a huge chunk of your life you’ll lock the doors, turn down the lights and play this free MiniClip Flash game immediately (you might want to turn off the music if you’re in the office). It’s an utterly utterly addictive cross between Lemmings and Line Rider, and you may never find time to eat again. I apologise for introducing this to you all, honestly.

The Google Podcasts – Sergey and Larry being Frank

The Google Podcasts. A 10 part series called The Lost Google Tapes will feature interviews with Larry Page and Sergey Brin conducted in January 2000. All proceeds of advertising go to a new social charter charity.  As it turned out, Page came down with the flu, so I first interviewed Sergey Brin alone for over an hour, then came down two weeks later to interview Larry Page. In the interim I was set up for interviews with Google board members…

Web 2.0 Logo Maker – for serious this time?

Weird. I do believe that this new Web 2.0 Logo Maker is for real. Yep, not a spoof. An actual application. Sad, isn’t it? Ten points to the reader who finds the first real life logo created with this.  Well, this tool started out as a bit of a joke amongst friends. But, Digg is now bringing in tons of Sytlr’s. So, first off, sorry for the crappy design. I never thought it’d get so popular. Maybe now I should actually dedicate some…

Podmailer – large file transfer via email

Podmailer is a new free P2P file transfer service which promises to let you transmit files of any size using just your email program. For example sending the full quality video footage of your recent wedding to your ex. That kind of thing. It’s not a totally new idea, although what makes this one different is that it’s based on Amazon’s new S3 service, so it should scale nicely with demand. Just download the Mac or PC client and off you go. Apparently….

Streamick.com – internet TV streaming done right

Streamick.com. Online television streaming finally gets the service it deserves. Isn’t it amazing that it’s taken this long to get a simple, clear, and fast interface. Select your favourite program as your default, or simply browse through the extensive listing. Sure, there’s lots more they can do (stored channel presets per user for instance) but this is a great start. Oh and it’s user moderated in terms of content and video quality. Not sure how they’re handling the legal bits,…

Radeo – mega online media player

Radeo is a free and very comprehensive online media player-portal. The site boasts of 10,000 stations, and half a million episodes of stuff, including webcasts, podcasts video and audio. The interface is a little scrappy (for example it’s hard to browse all US stations or all alternative etc), but it’s a nice effort nevertheless and definitely worth a look.
