Bubble Comment – add a video comment to any web page or post for free

Bubble Comment. This is one of those applications which sounds quite useful. The idea is to let you create a video comment for any site you want. Just supply the URL address of the site, then fire up your webcam and record your video comment. When you’re done you receive a share address to give out so others can view your masterpiece. It’s fascinating tech, but I do wonder just how many people will want to bother with something like this, especially when the videos expire after just…

Monitter – live Twitter monitor lets you browse your life away, one tweet at a time…

Monitter is a new Twitter browser which lets you monitor Twitter for up to three key words at a time. Should you find any of your life left over after squandering it on this innocuous and yet oh so dangerous pastime, then why not embed the thing in a widget on your website too? That way you can spread the infection properly. Oh and did we mention you can limit it geographically too? Marked under ‘scary tech’. Tags: monitter, twitter, online+application

PLX Kiwi – engine and driving monitor helps improve your mpg by up to 33%, or your carbon back…

The PLX Kiwi is an engine and driving monitor device which helps you save fuel by displaying your fuel consumption live as you drive. It also displays a scorecard which lets you know if you’re driving properly and responsibly (i.e. in Drive Green Mode) by accelerating smoothly, avoiding harsh braking etc etc. We’re a little concerned about the training mode, because we have visions of people peering myopically at the screen while crashing spectacularly into the nearest tree. But hey, what do we…

Cyber Clean – beats as it sweeps as it cleans…

Cyber Clean is a totally weird – but in a funny way logical – product for cleaning keyboards. I have a feeling that it would be a perfect way to get inside the nooks and crannies of my keyboard for instance. Hey, and it’s Swiss so it’s got to be good, right? £7.95 for a 500g pot.  Did you know that the average computer keyboard is proven to accumulate more germs than a public toilet? Now there’s a Swiss solution that can help…

Guideal – psst…fancy becoming a tour guide?

Guideal is an interesting little idea. It’s basically an online portal for amateur and professional tour guides. The idea is to harness the wisdom of the crowds to match those who would like a tour of a location with those who would like to give a tour of their favourite locale. Some of the guides want money, some offer tours on the site for free, but either way you’ve got to love the sentiment.   It’s very early days yet,…

Chinese UFO spotted hovering over pigeon’s head – birds nervous

A Chinese UFO type craft has been spotted hovering around in the skies of Shanghai recently. Not very high up in the skies we ought to say, because the craft can only reach a height of 1000 metres off the ground and a speed of 80 km/h, but hey it’s a start right? It’s a 1.2 metre dish shaped thing that apparently cost over $4 million to develop. Sheesh, give me the $4 mill and an old hubcap and I’ll build you something that will astonish even…

Jamglue – remixing for the masses

Jamglue. Upload your tracks and play around. Add cool FX, mix and max different tracks, let your imagination run rout/reet/riot. The developers have thrown in all the usual community stuff, as well as a smattering of contest action to keep you engaged as you play away. Not a bad effort really, nice and clean and immediately engaging if you’re into this sort of thing, although I do have a feeling they’re trying just a bit too hard. Ah well, check it out all you LL…

Soft House – harvesting power from your curtains

The Soft House project harvests electrical energy from a set of curtains by using ‘organic photovoltaic nanotechnology’ material to convert sunlight into power. The idea is that the curtains convert the sun’s rays all day, then switch to insulating and even lighting the habitat during the evening and night. The research team reckon they can harvest up to 16,000 watt hours of power a day, which is around half of the needs of an average US home. [Thanks Matthew]. Cue joke –…

Miracle Berry Tablets – taste twisting pills mess your mouth up in weird delicious ways

These Miracle Berry Tablets contain some rogue protein which binds to the tastebuds on your tongue. The result is you taste differently after you take one. Sour tastes sweet, sweet tastes astonishing and basically your tongue does a freak out for around 2 hours. Is this a good thing? Diet fanatics will no doubt think so. £9.95.  Each pill rewires the way your palate perceives flavours for up to two hours, so you’ve plenty of time to try tons of…

The Non-Stop Train – detachable docking compartment takes the strain

The Non-Stop Train concept is quite an interesting idea. Instead of the train halting at every stop, it continues through stations while detaching and collecting a transit compartment for people who want to get on and off. The video explains it better than I can. The interesting thing is that the infrastructure costs could be relatively small, although as with anything complex, there’s always more scope for things to go wrong. Flowgram – screencasting on steroids…

Flowgram is an online multimedia screencasting application which has just launched in private beta. It’s ambitious and looks very interesting in a number of ways. For one it has a fully interactive interface, which means that you can click on videos, links and things like documents and not lose your place in the screencast, just hit the backspace key! The process of creating a flowgram as they’re called is fairly simple, just enter in the URL of the page you…

Flybrid Systems – building hybrid cars using flywheels not batteries

Flybrid Systems is developing an innovative flywheel based hybrid engine system which will take energy from braking and transfer it through a 60,000 rpm flywheel motion into a fuel saving boost to engine efficiency. It may sound kooky, but Jaguar are already looking at the technology and the Formula 1 racing world is also heavily invested in this type of tech. Don’t expect to see anything on the roads for a few years though, while they iron out the wrinkles.  The…

Genetic confusion? – new report says that personal DNA testing is about as useful as learning what your star sign is

A new Which? consumer’s report out today, comes up with a rather scathing verdict on the new DNA testing services which offer to chart your genetic makeup. The report sent off identical DNA samples to four web based testing companies. The mag paid between £75.00 and £510 for the tests (one male, one female). Their conclusion? “…the results are so vague it’s almost the equivalent of telling someone what their star sign is.” Oops!  Which? Computing sent the same two DNA…
