Magnetic Air Car – so how well does it stick to the road, dude?

Update: the photos of the car used in this company’s official marketing material and web site, as well as in the article linked to below have been taken without permission from the site of Factory Five, a kit car maker from the US who produce a $19,990 GTM Supercar kit. You must draw your own conclusions! This Magnetic Air Car appears to be an absolute miracle of engineering. We’re talking a vehicle that will travel at 100 mph plus for…

BioBot – bye bye Exxon, hello your own small scale oil company

The BioBot is the latest biodiesel processor to hit the market. We’ve talked about these things before, and they’re definitely interesting in a ‘will they/won’t they’ kind of way. Succeed that is. What makes this one different is the fact that the developers have clearly thought about the whole process and built in some clever and simple technology to make the whole diesel production thing much easier to do. Here’s a very clear video of the process.   Instead of a confusing…

Peanut Butter Machine – for all nuts smooth and chunky

Everyone knows that things you make yourself taste better and that’s obviously the idea behind the Peanut Butter Machine. Fill ‘er up with any type of nuts in shells (peanuts, sunflower, cashews and even macadamias for goodness sake) and it grinds them down to a sticky, gooey mess fit to spread on bread or bake into cookies. Might also be good if you make a lot of tahini or eat a lot of hummus. My only question is, how on…

Tooth Tunes – get that song out of my head!

Toy behemoth Hasbro has released a music-playing toothbrush called Tooth Tunes. The idea being you keep brushing your teeth until the music runs out. The freaky part is the music is transmitted into your ears via bone conduction through your jaw so you can only hear the music if you’re brushing correctly. Now don’t get me wrong, anything that helps children to clean their teeth more effectively and makes it fun gets a tick in my book. However each toothbrush…

Nicro Solar Fridge Fan – improve your fridge’s cooling efficiency by up to 40%

The Nicro Solar Fridge Fan promises to improve the efficiency of your refrigerator by up to 40%. The idea is to attach it to the back of your fridge and let it blow air across the coils to help it use less energy and cool better. Does anyone know whether this is likely to work? It’s featured on a marine site, so maybe it’s only for boats and camping type fridges? Interesting. £72.25.  Fridge fan increase your refrigerators cooling efficiency by up to…

Phosphor – online shockwave FPS game

Phosphor is a Shockwave FPS game. In default mode you play against three computer generated bots in a simple setting and try to stay alive. It won’t give Valve any sleepless nights, but it’s Shockwave for goodness sake. Running in your browser. Beware the crashing Firefox on exit syndrome though. Oh and it’s got multi-player support built in too. Astonishing.  Phosphor is a first-person shooter created with Macromedia Director. The Shockwave Player allows the game to run within a web browser…

SideTaker – take your arguments online

SideTaker is an online forum for arguments. Yep, you can now anonymously post your personal problems online and have the world and its dog offer suggestions, tips and commiserations on your predicament. I’m guessing it’s not going to be a pretty place to hang out, but some people seem to really enjoy things like that. Witness reality shows, eh? Your call…  Fighting with your significant other? Who’s right and who’s wrong? Air it out anonymously while letting people of the…

Clockspot – the online timeclock

Clockspot is an online timeclock. Yep, your employees can punch in at the start of the day by logging in to the service via Web or telephone. Yeah we can hear you sniggering over there, but think about it. With the right controls (e.g. IP or MAC address logging) this could be very useful for companies with a workforce spread across the globe. Project time sheets, centralised vacation control, reporting…it’s all good stuff if it works as advertised. Prices start…

Flight Memory – track your life aloft

Flight Memory is an interesting little online service that lets you track your air travel in probably more detail than you’d like to remember, especially if you’re a member of the global warming cadre. You can store time in the air, distances, aircraft and of course destinations. Premium members can also rate the airlines, aircraft, airports and routes they travel, which makes it quite a useful resource. The German bias of the site is however evident in the fact that…

GL3000W Electric Sports Car – are you scared yet, Mr Tesla Motors?

The GL3000W Electric Sports Car may not keep Tesla Motors execs awake at night, yet, but it definitely shows that the Chinese manufacturing machine is starting to think out of the box in terms of upcoming electric vehicles. The performance is startlingly pathetic right now using lead acid battery tech, but who knows about the future. Max speed 45km/h, range 100 km, recharge 6–12 hours. Oh and it comes with a 400W heater, which could be useful doncha think?  1….

iHitch High Tech Hitchhiking – using the power of today, to travel to tomorrow

I really like this iHitch idea, aka a new form of shared community travel. It combines GPS, mobile phones and instant digital payments to provide a safe and ubiquitous car sharing system for all. The fact that it also includes an online reputation management system makes it a little more than just pie in the sky too. OK, so there are services like this around already, but no-one has really done the job superbly, with all of the best technologies and processes. It’s…

Xero – the world’s easiest accounting system?

They’re boldly billing Xero as the world’s easiest accounting system, and we’re happy to play along for a bit. It’s pretty as a button, comes with oodles of nice charts and graphs, and has an Ajax enhanced UI that looks like it really makes sense. It’s designed for UK and New Zealand small businesses (a full international version arrives next year) and costs £29.00 a month + VAT which also includes a nice little ‘partner’ feature to help small entrepreneurs find…
