Folder Player – play your music from your folders for convenience [Freeware]

There’s one very strange thing about general MP3 music player apps for phones. They tend to only give you the option to play your music collection by genres, or artists or other similar functions. Only on some of the more sophisticated (and costly) players do you get to listen to your collection by folder. And yet a lot of us store our music by folder, rather than any other method.

Google Glass has sure caused a stir out on the prairie, what with all that privacy, geekiness, and intrusive stuff flying around. But the fact is that wearable tech is going to happen in one way or another, whether we like it or not. Our only choice is in how to make it all more practical.

Cyberlink YouSnap – cool app auto-corrects your document captures to give great results each time [Freeware]

One of the top uses for camera phones is capturing documents and notes on the go, kind of like a pocket scanner but much more flexible. One of the problems though, is the fact that image grabs done in a hurry can be less than perfect…either out of skew or indistinct in some way or another.

Last month we reported on an innovative piece of tech which was designed to convert your standard Samsung Galaxy S3 or S4 smartphone into a 10.1 inch tablet computer and it got a lot of interest from around the web. To say the least. Well the company behind the project has decided to go for crowdfunding via Indiegogo and they’ve released a better video, specs and pricing.

Timely – absolutely gorgeous alarm clock for Android, now free of charge [Freeware]

Last week Google swooped in and bought yet another small company using it’s extremely large duffel bag of loose change and lunch vouchers. But this time, instead of immediately shutting down the product and re-deploying the engineers towards the rear of the Googleplex building, Google has done the unthinkable. It’s turned a great product into a free one.

There are two things we can never get enough of in this world. Battery life and data bandwidth. OK, there are probably a few more, but let’s try and keep this simple shall we? In any event, most of us suffer from some kind of mobile Internet data cap on our phones, and exceeding it can become very expensive very quickly. Well here’s a way to try and avoid the cost.

Trees For Cars – homeless man taught to code releases first smartphone app after just 4 months

It’s one of those good Samaritan stories that’s just tailor made for the Christmas season. Young programmer walking to work one day in New York sees homeless man sleeping on a bench and comes up with an ingenious, some would say diabolical, plan. Offer the man a choice of $100 cash or a cheap laptop and some programming lessons for an hour each day.
