Mobigator – Skype calls redirected to your mobile for free-ish

The Mobigator transfers incoming home or office Skype calls to your mobile phone for free (as long as you’ve got a family mobile call plan) via an internal SIM card. The Skype call arrives, the device calls out to your mobile via its internal SIM and you chat with the caller using the link-up. The Pro version lets you direct calls to multiple mobile phones in an office scenario. £185.99.  MobiGater is a device which transfers your Skype calls to your mobile…

Mobivox – voice activated Skype on mobile phones

I recently started testing the beta version of Mobivox and it’s pretty cool. Think of a service that lets you access all your Skype contacts and make Skype and SkypeOut calls from your mobile phone. But instead of relying on software downloads, computers and stuff it’s all done via a simple local call and voice commands. You dial a local number to access the service, and are then prompted to speak the name of the Skype contact you want to call. The…

Keomo Solar Powered GPS Receiver – perpetual motion in action

The Keomo Solar Powered Bluetooth GPS Receiver is so logical it’s a wonder it took so long to arrive on the market. GPS receivers for the most part sit on car dashboards facing the sky, so what better way to power them than using a small solar array rather than all those nasty cables into lighter sockets. The internal rechargeable batteries also provide 100 hours operation, with a trickle charge we assume.  In addition to the excellent chipset, the dual power mechanism (battery…

Teeny tiny projectors – one step closer to reality

Texas Instruments has announced a prototype of a tiny DLP pico-projector which is small enough to fit on the tip of your finger. These new devices should eventually mean that your PDA or mobile phone will come with its own integrated projector which can shine a screen display on the nearest flat surface. Don’t hold your breath for it to arrive though, will you?  The latest DLP innovation from the world leader in mobile projection solutions enables compelling viewing options that expand beyond…

Grand Central – one number, many phones

Grand Central is a ‘one number to many phones’ service which is really just an update on the old unified messaging stuff. Remember that? You signed up for one telephone number which accepted voice calls, fax, emails etc etc and let you pick them all up any way you wanted? Sounded great until you realised that your friends and business associates would have to pay a premium rate to call you, at which point it all fell a bit flat. Anyhoo, this bunch…

Emoze – the free email BlackBerry killer?

Emoze is a new free email and PIM push service that works on just about any Microsoft or Symbian powered smartphone or PDA. The key fact is that unlike other mobile email programs, this one supports push, in other words you don’t have to log in, the software sends your messages to you as they arrive at the server. What’s more they claim to outstrip BlackBerrys for speed of delivery. And did we mention that it’s free? Which makes it…

Jott – instant voice reminders sent to email from your cell phone

Jott is a super cool mobile phone application which lets you send instant voice reminders, notes, to-do list items or whatever from your mobile phone. What’s clever is that these notes will be transcribed and delivered to your email inbox or to your contacts instantly. So it’s kind of like an infinite memo taker. US only at the moment, but a really cool idea nonetheless. [Via Lifehacker]  A Jott is a thought, an idea, a task, an action item, a phone number,…

Singtones – proof that lack of ability is no longer a handicap

Singtones is a service that lets everyone sing their own ringtone, and then get it digitally ‘adjusted and enhanced’ to sound reasonable before uploading to their phone. It’s sure to be a hit with the tone deaf, but is that a good thing for those with more than half an ear? Listen to some of the examples on the front page and then make your decision.  What is a ReVoice Singtone? ReVoice Singtones are a new, fun and unique way to create your…

Mig33 – IM, VoIP calls, cheap SMS and chat rooms on your mobile phone

Mig33 is a new Australian beta service which offers IM (AIM, MSN, Yahoo!), cheap callback VoIP and SMS, and chat rooms on your mobile phone. It’s a Java based program, which means it’s compatible with just about every handset, which is nice, and it uses GPRS which again makes it a pretty universal service. Worth a look? [Thanks Megaman]  mig33 is a combination mobile instant messenger and international calling card service. You can chat to your buddies and meet new friends using…

Devicescape – quick and easy auto-connect to hotspots

Devicescape. Sign up, download the software and it will automatically sign you in to your WiFi service of choice as you roam. The program runs on Windows PCs, Windows Mobile 5.0 smartphones and a couple of other WiFi devices, but it will need many more VoIP and WiFi enabled devices on the list to make this really useful. One to watch though, because anything that makes it easier to connect to hotspots gets a thumbs up from us. No more…

Whisher – cool free WiFi sharing community

Whisher. Public Wi-Fi services are a rip off. We all know it. Wireless broadband should be free and it should be everywhere. Well maybe services like Whisher will help break the current system and provide a genuinely useful global Wi-Fi sharing community. It’s not the first such service (FON springs to mind) but it looks to be one of the easiest to use. Just download and install the software and bingo, you can share your Wi-Fi connection wherever you are. And…

Arcade Reality – augmented reality gaming comes to the camera phone

Long time Ferret readers will remember five years ago when we first mentioned the ARQuake augmented reality gaming project which let you play Quake on a portable computer, headset and GPS unit. At that point it was very much a college project, and even today it involves quite a bit of clunky equipment (weighing 6 kilograms and incorporating a full 2GHz belt worn computer). Well guess what? Something similar has just made its way onto the Palm Treo, using nothing more sophisticated…

Exradia Wi-Guard Battery – nullify your mobile phone radiation?

The Exradia Wi-Guard Battery claims to be the only mobile phone battery in existence that ‘has been proven in independent scientific studies to stop man-made EMF having any effect on human bodies.’ Bold statement for such a seemingly simple product, eh, but apparently it’s all down to randomising wave patterns. Priced at £34.99 each and currently only available as a replacement for a couple of Nokia battery types.  The Exradia Noise Field Technology (NFT) superimposes a low frequency randomised magnetic…

XT9 – predictive text grows up

The XT9 Mobile Interface is a new version of the T9 predictive text tech which we all know and love from our happy hours spent sending SMS messages. What, you mean you don’t use predictive text? Tsk. The upgrades include faster mode switching between touchscreen, QWERTY and keypad, and a pretty cool error correction feature which corrects the word if it thinks that you hit the wrong key by mistake. Personally I’m a bit of a fan of T9, so this all sounds…
