Funky stuff, man!
It’s a big bad world out there, and we’re pretty sure it’s not going to change any time soon. We’re talking specifically about malware, drive-by exploits and the like, because these attacks seem to be on the rise, and it’s kind of disconcerting.

It’s not often they let the Intel engineers out into the sunlight, most of the time they’re kept locked in dark dungeons slaving away on stuff which we may see in a few years time. But this week the unthinkable happened, and the might chip maker decided to show off some of the cool stuff they’re working on, and we were invited along to have a play and video. It was rather neat.
Well it had to come right? We’ve had flying cars, flying chairs and even flying houses, so why shouldn’t there be something like a flying bicycle? OK, well maybe it’s a bit too Jetsons for most of us, but we’ll bet that there’ll be a fair few nutters buyers for this little gizmo once the drugs wear off.
Every since the dawn of the age of the wheel, people have been trying, mostly unsuccessfully, to improve upon the basic design. Similarly with derivatives such as the bicycle. So we’re not surprised to find that an enterprising Italian engineering student has also decided to have a go. But with typical Latin flair.
Ever wished there was a bank which was actually driven by more humanitarian goals than merely making more profit? Yes there are credit unions, cooperative and community banks, but they almost all still revolve around the idea of interest payments on loans and savings. What about a bank that did away with all that, and tried a different approach altogether?
The security camera market is about as large as our fears of being robbed, cheated and broken into, so it’s not surprising that there’s a lot of apps available for smartphones which will offer a new way of tackling the problem. There’s a new product, however, which seems to be getting a lot of friends because of its ease of use and low cost.

We’re completely out of flying car jokes by now, since they’re so obviously not sitting outside waiting to pick us up for the shopping trip. But even so, we’re getting close to a time when we may actually see some exotic craft in the air over our heads. They may not hold all the shopping, but they do look like fun.
OK, as long time tea drinkers we’re going to come out and say it. The stuff you get in most cafes and coffee bars is generally closer to dodgy dish water than a properly brewed cup of tea. Unlike the craft of brewing coffee using clever machines, all most baristas tend to do is dunk a tea bag in a hot cup of water and hope for the best. Disaster.
There seems to something of a revolution going on in the microscope market, what with the new low cost technologies coming on stream to let people do the job of magnifying very small stuff. Only last month we reported on the Foldscope, which is a sub $1 standalone microscope which is made from paper. And now we have another entry.
True road warriors know that you can never have enough space to hold all your stuff. And by stuff we’re talking about vital, crucial stuff, not just the odd box of Kleenex and a tube of toothpaste. If you’re serious about your geek, you need to carry your gadget universe wherever you go. Which can get tricky.
The price of housing is getting ridiculous in many of the world’s major locations, which is why we have to applaud any attempt to try and even the odds for those of us too poor to pay $1 million for a two bedroom apartment above a bakery.
Whoa, sometimes something arrives on the scene and you’re suddenly aware that technology can still surprise you, and that’s the case with this new free browser addon which does some amazing stuff.

The good folk at Eye-Fi have established a solid reputation for producing cool WiFi enabled SD cards which can transfer data from cameras to phones and other devices without cables, and they’ve just announced a cool new upgrade to their product range functionality.

Gardens are definitely cool, even if they do tend to take a bit of work to manage. But at least you get some exercise and the fruits – sometimes literally – of your labor are on show for everyone to see.
