Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit – new freeware protects against browser attacks better than your anti-virus will [Freeware]

It’s a big bad world out there, and we’re pretty sure it’s not going to change any time soon. We’re talking specifically about malware, drive-by exploits and the like, because these attacks seem to be on the rise, and it’s kind of disconcerting.

Intel Future Technology Show – we get to see what the engineers are up to deep in their labs

It’s not often they let the Intel engineers out into the sunlight, most of the time they’re kept locked in dark dungeons slaving away on stuff which we may see in a few years time. But this week the unthinkable happened, and the might chip maker decided to show off some of the cool stuff they’re working on, and we were invited along to have a play and video. It was rather neat.

Sada Bike – hubless, elegant and folds to the size of an umbrella

Every since the dawn of the age of the wheel, people have been trying, mostly unsuccessfully, to improve upon the basic design. Similarly with derivatives such as the bicycle. So we’re not surprised to find that an enterprising Italian engineering student has also decided to have a go. But with typical Latin flair.

Jak Bank – interest free ethical borrowing becomes a reality in Sweden

Ever wished there was a bank which was actually driven by more humanitarian goals than merely making more profit? Yes there are credit unions, cooperative and community banks, but they almost all still revolve around the idea of interest payments on loans and savings. What about a bank that did away with all that, and tried a different approach altogether?

AtHome Camera – instantly turn your old smartphone or tablet into a security camera [Freeware]

The security camera market is about as large as our fears of being robbed, cheated and broken into, so it’s not surprising that there’s a lot of apps available for smartphones which will offer a new way of tackling the problem. There’s a new product, however, which seems to be getting a lot of friends because of its ease of use and low cost.

Parajet SkyRunner – 0-60 in 4.3 secs, 115 mph top speed, 56 mpg and 10,000 foot flight ceiling

We’re completely out of flying car jokes by now, since they’re so obviously not sitting outside waiting to pick us up for the shopping trip. But even so, we’re getting close to a time when we may actually see some exotic craft in the air over our heads. They may not hold all the shopping, but they do look like fun.

BKON Craft Brewer – heads up peeps, the ultimate tea brewing machine has arrived

OK, as long time tea drinkers we’re going to come out and say it. The stuff you get in most cafes and coffee bars is generally closer to dodgy dish water than a properly brewed cup of tea. Unlike the craft of brewing coffee using clever machines, all most baristas tend to do is dunk a tea bag in a hot cup of water and hope for the best. Disaster.

There seems to something of a revolution going on in the microscope market, what with the new low cost technologies coming on stream to let people do the job of magnifying very small stuff. Container House – $60,000 home builds in four days with 3 workers, a crane, wrench and a drill

The price of housing is getting ridiculous in many of the world’s major locations, which is why we have to applaud any attempt to try and even the odds for those of us too poor to pay $1 million for a two bedroom apartment above a bakery.

Grow Up Hydrogarden – the all in one garden for people without the space or time

Gardens are definitely cool, even if they do tend to take a bit of work to manage. But at least you get some exercise and the fruits – sometimes literally – of your labor are on show for everyone to see. But what happens if you don’t have the space or the time to do the whole full on dig and dirt thing?

Imagine your luggage is just code – get ready for a future where we don’t own things, but instead make and destroy on demand

Finnish designer and creative director of 3D systems, Janne Kyttanen, has recently posted a video outlining a possible future where 3D printing is embedded in our lives in a completely new way. He asks us to imagine a world where everything we own – in this case specifically our vacation luggage – is stored as nothing but computer code. Instead of carrying our belongings with us on holiday, the idea is we print it all out at our destination on…
