iPhone antenna solution – add some real style to your icon and maybe receive calls

So let me get this straight. I’ve just forked out the best part of £500/$757 on a shiny new iPhone 4 and then they tell me the best solution they can come up with to fix the antenna failure problem is to stick a day-glo green rubber band around the outside? And people take this seriously? Hahahahahahaha! I’ve just got one thing to say –  Tags: iphone+4, antenna+problem, apple

Mini Tumble Dryer – no more soggy hankie blues

This Hobbit sized Mini Tumble Dryer is hilarious, since it looks as though it can literally only cope with a couple of handkerchiefs and a dishcloth. The only thing that would make it better is if it was USB powered, but alas it’s not. Frodo *will* be disappointed. £99.99.  The ideal solution for those with only limited space or who don’t need a full sized drier. This compact tumble drier measures a mere H50 x W19 x D13cm, yet it takes loads of up…

Kitchen Knife Mirror – scare the bits out of the neighbours while preening

In some strange parallel universe the idea of producing a makeup mirror which resembles a kitchen cleaver seems to make sense, and now there’s the Kitchen Knife Mirror to prove it. It’s apparently shatter proof, scratch proof and made from acrylic. Strange world. $9.99.  The Kitchen Knife Mirror will scare the hell out of others while it allows you to make sure you are looking your best. Any time you want to give yourself a quick check, just pull this cleaver out and start…

Wang XYW 3838 Cigarette Box Phone – when is it cool to look crazy?

The Wang XYW 3838 Cigarette Box Phone has been around for a while, but that doesn’t make it any less weird. Who on earth came up with the idea of sticking a bright red box to your ear in public? At what point did someone in marketing sign off on equating mobile phone chat with nicotine death? It’s a proper phone though. Quad band, 300K camera, microSD slot, twin speakers and MP3 and video playback. But it’s still weird, I think…

AnyBot QB – forget your Avatar, send in the Anybots

Having a bad hair day or chucking a sicky, but there’s a big meeting at work? Here’s your answer, the Anybot QB. That is if you don’t mind facing your boss facing something which looks like a vacuum cleaner paired with a rice cooker on wheels. From the comfort of your sick bed you just open up the laptop, launch your browser of choice and log on to your Anybot. From then on it’s a like a web cam on steroids….

Slobber Stopper – the safety cover for birthday cakes

Not sure how to do this one. Slobber Stopper is a…um…’reusable cake cover’ which is designed to stop your children breathing their germs over the birthday cake when they blow out the candles. ! Everything about this product is classic, simply everything. The name, the teeny tiny niche market, the concept…oh lawks the concept…the marketing video, the health angle, the idea of sticking burning candles on top of plastic to stay safe, the aesthetics…oh my goodness me…the country of origin,…

Ubiquitous Player – Swiss Army knife freeware program does it all

This Ubiquitous Player freeware program is definitely a strange one. Picture an audio and video player which also does service as a text editor, image viewer, web browser, screen shot grabber, HTML editor, games console and and…sheesh, I forget. The UI is basic, the functionality more so, but hey, it’s free and it works. Enjoy it for its quirky-ness.  Ubiquitous Player is All-In-One multimedia player, web browser, image viewer, text editor and file manager. Tags: ubiquiitous+player, freeware, mp3, video

2.4GHz Wireless Table Sculpture with Hidden Camera

We’ve blogged one or two hidden cameras here on the Ferret, but I think this is the first one built into a sculpture. This 2.4GHz Wireless Table Sculpture with Hidden Camera won’t draw any undue attention, I’m sure. It broadcasts 420 lines and audio 100m to the wireless receiver and the 500mAh battery built into the statue means there are no silly wires to give it away. It’s got to be a bargain at US$183.99 This Spy camera kit includes…

Twirling Spaghetti Fork – Bigger sauce stains through technology

This Twirling Spaghetti Fork could well be the nail in your style coffin. In fact I’d say you would need more chic, style and suavacity than can be found at James Bond reunion to pull this off. If I were you, I wouldn’t bring it out until at least after the third date. The fork bit comes off and goes in the dishwasher and it needs batteries, dunno what type, does it really matter? 7.99 Candles, nice music and great…

USB LED Message Fan – Classy with a capital c

This USB LED Message Fan uses the ol’ persistence of vision thing to get your message across and broadcast a 16 character message to the office. It’s also a fan, so it’ll keep you cool. Or something. All you need is 8 more and you can hack them to display your tweets. Or not. US$16. Hard to say the words? Make them appear in the air. Customize your messages like “I Love U”, “Sorry!”. Just turn it on, then your…

Segway i2 Clone – is nothing sacred, even white elephants?

We’re trying to figure out this Global Sources entry. Is it a real Chinese Segway i2 clone, or is it a legitimate Chinese sub-contractor making Segways for their domestic market. Either way it’s weird. Talk about lame duck enterprises. [Ahhh…Dan sends me a possible explanation – http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2008/07/chinese-police/] Tags: segway+i2, chinese+clone, shanzhai

Laptop Accessory Pouch – piggyback your knicknacks on your paddy shack

The new Laptop Accessory Pouch. You know your laptop screen? Bet you thought it was for reading data, right? Wrong. It’s actually there so you can Velcro a stuff bag full of goodies onto it, like cell phones, memory sticks, happy pills etc. We’re trying hard to come up with a situation where this actually makes sense, but don’t hold your breath waiting. $16.95.  The new Laptop Accessory Pouch if the first carrying case designed to attach directly to the back…

CA LED Notebook Light – Stick your light where you need it

I’m not really sure what this CA LED Notebook Light is for. It’s a battery powered (not USB) LED light that sticks onto you laptop screen to provide light to type or read by. Apart from the inherent danger of sticking a suction cup to your screen, I’m currently writing this article in the dark, with nothing but my laptop screen for illumination. I can see all the non-backlit keys just fine. Anyway, the choice is yours and the damage…
